Located in southern Siberia, Irkutsk Oblast boasts vast primeval forests, deep, clear lakes, and rolling mountain ranges. With a forest coverage rate of 77%, it boasts a diverse wildlife species, including brown bears, elk, and roe deer, providing exceptional natural conditions for hunting and outdoor adventures. Local residents, steeped in centuries-old hunting traditions, have a deep emotional connection and practical demand for hunting gear and outdoor equipment. According to the Irkutsk Oblast Tourism Department, the number of participants in outdoor hunting and related activities exceeded 500,000 in 2024, an 18% year-on-year increase. This trend demonstrates a strong demand for high-quality outdoor products and hunting gear in the local market.
Deepening trade between China, Russia and Mongolia brings development opportunities
With the deepening integration of the Belt and Road Initiative with Russia's Eurasian Economic Union, and the continued advancement of the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor, Irkutsk's status as a transportation and trade hub among the three countries is becoming increasingly prominent. In terms of trade volume, China-Russia bilateral trade is projected to reach $222.775 billion in 2024, while China-Mongolia trade is projected to reach $13.75 billion, both reaching record highs. This trade growth has created unprecedented market potential for the outdoor products and hunting gear industry. For example, Manzhouli Port, a key land port between China and Russia, saw a 23% increase in outdoor product imports and exports in 2024, with some of this product being sold in Irkutsk and surrounding areas. This demonstrates the strong driving force behind regional trade cooperation in driving industry development.
